Hi All,

Could anyone identify the below tree? I've tried using plant identifier apps, but with no luck.

Budock Terrace

  •  A close up of the tree/leaves would help to ID  :)

@philippasmith2 , unfortunately I don't have one. It's actually the garden of a house we've just bought! If you have a free 5 minutes and fancy designing me a new garden, any advice on what to do with everything else would be much appreciated  ;)

Looks like a eucalyptus, but it's hard to see from that distance.

I can see a cinnamon coloured trunk with possibly peeling bark.. the shape of the tree and its evergreen nature suggests Arbutus unedo as a possibility at this range of view..
    East Anglia, England
  • Ah, that's a bit awkward then @HenryP ;)  Joking aside tho, when you take posession, give people an idea of the location ( Cornwall ? ) aspect, size, soil type and what you like growing, how much time you have to spend on maintenance, children/pets to take into account etc.  Plenty of people on here who would be more than willing to offer some good advice.
In the meantime, very best of luck with the move - hope it all goes smoothly  :)

@philippasmith2 , thank you so much! I'll definitely be back on here once I know a little bit more about the space  :)

Advice I was given several times and was (usually) glad to follow was to live somewhere for a while before you decide what to do. Get to know it, how the sun moves, where the winds come from, what you might like screening, what plants might pop up that you didn't know were there, and generally how you feel about things. The develop a plan around that.

I can see a lovely garden in there, just waiting to come out. Enjoy!

  • Gosh - not so much Spec savers that I need but just completely new eyes  :D
I've looked again at @HenryP 's photo - it's a tree I'm pretty sure of that !!  If it is A unedo, certainly worth keeping.  Very attractive and do well down here in the SW.

@NormandyLiz , that's fantastic advice. Thank you! I'll need to do my best to be patient when it comes to it.

@philippasmith2 fingers firmly crossed that it is!
  • To me it looks like a Myrtle.

    Happy gardening!
