I'd say that is a rat hole and needs attention pretty quickly.

  • Thought so been out removed water and bird food , cleaned around area d
  • I'm inclined to agree with @Uff.   had a similar problem when we had rats in the garden ( also ventured into the house roof space ).  They enjoyed the bird feed area in my garden and then made a home under my NDN's shed.  I stopped feeding the birds, concrete proofed the access to the shed and set a Snap Trap in the roof.  Touch wood, it solved the problem.

Same with me and my shed @philippasmith2 I had to concrete around my shed after a rat run was found going under the shed. Had to take up part of the shed floor to get the body out.
I know of two people who ignored their shared odd job man's advice on getting rid of rats in their gardens. The vermin got into roof space and chewed wiring in one house and the second house had rats get into the wall panelling in the porch and then behind bath panelling.
I haven't seen any rats here since I got rid 2 years ago but I'd hazard a guess and say they are somewhere around.

    Yes ,I’d say so
  • We live next door to a farm. We had no problem with rats for over 30 years, when our neighbour died and his pest control ceased. Rats became an increasing problem here, but we were reluctant to use poison because of our cats and the buzzards and other birds or animals that might scavenge a dead or dying rat.
We were seriously contemplating getting a ferret when Mr Stoat arrived. No longer are there rats brazenly feeding with the ducks and pheasants (all wild) on the yard. There has been neither sight nor sound of them for weeks. The feed bags are safe.
Nature has corrected an imbalance on its own.

  • Indeed @Buttercupdays  …. We must provide the habitat for the predators as well as for the pretty things.
