  To germinate eucalyptus I made smoke water by mixing  burnt eucalptus wood ashes into water. That seemed to work.

  There is a You Tube video showing how to smoke protea seeds (without BBQing them) to simulate the effects of a bush fire. I guess the bush fire thing is why smoke aids germination for these types of plants? Nature is amazing.

  Well, you live and learn!  I hadn't heard of smoke paper either!  But what a good idea for growing things that like to have gone through the fire.

  Gardening in East Suffolk on dry sandy soil.
