Rose shoots

Just checking my climbing roses that I clipped back last year. Am I right in thinking that the stems I cut in red won't grow any more as they have brown circle around them? Trying to work out what's going to shoot out and if I do need to cut lower

  • Yes. They’ll grow from where you can see the buds, so if there aren’t any other buds further up the cane then you could cut them further back to just above where there is a bud. You’ll get dieback from anything further along if there are no active growth buds.

  • Ok so will they grow from the points I've circled in red? Not sure if I should cut them back lower

The top picture one may sprout from near the junction.

They won't shoot from the end of a cut branch, only from a bud. Nothing will shoot from where you have put your circles. I'd leave them. You have shoots growing below your circles 2nd picture
    In London. Keen but lazy.

Ok thanks was just hoping they would shoot out a bit lower down but it doesn't appear so at the moment which is why I was wondering if I should have cut them back further to the base but was afraid to at the time
