My black plastic tubs are italian, as used by the big-plant nurseries. They come with handles, which are useful for dragging them about. I use them only for my deciduous agapanthus whose leaves in summerhide the handles and most of the pots.
I also have some Cretan clay pots, acquired one at a time from a cheapo garden centre in near Bagshot. They are a bit expensive but worthwhile as they are geuinely frost-proof. And much cheaper than the real McCoy "pitoi" stuff, but a similar tasteful pale greyish terra cotta.
But as you know I have some serious down-sizing to work through.

Yes ... the genuine frost proof are so much better ... but as you say, pricier and sadly out of a lot of folks' price range.
Best of luck with the downsizing ... not an easy prospect I know ... I've moved 'up' and 'down' all my life, going from 200 acres to 2 acres to a suburban plot then to 9 acres to a quarter acre and back and forth over the years. Just as well I'm a pragmatist ...
Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
