I shred our brambles to put in the council green bin. Otherwise they’d take up too much space. I usually pull them up by the roots, so not too hazardous to put into the shredder, which then pulls them in without me having to feed them in. Very satisfying. If I tried composting brambles, I wouldn’t have room in the garden to compost anything else! They are very prolific here, and I wouldn’t want to chance the cuttings sprouting.
There are two techniques used for shredding brambles. The first involves cutting them into easily handled lengths of about 2-3 ft that can be easily fed into the shredder. The second technique, which I have not tried, involves feeding the whole length of the bramble into the shredder root end first.
