Greenhouse Build

A while back I ask for advice on this forum as I was contemplating a hexagonal greenhouse and I jokingly mentioned that my neighbour said I should just build one.

Well, it’s not hexagonal, but I’m nevertheless very proud of it ☺️. It took me about 18 month to build as it was a lot of figuring out what to do next. I learnt to pour foundation, lay bricks, do wood work and glaze in the process. My husband helped me getting the roof on as well as some of the bigger panes of glass as this really needed two people.
I’m not quite finished yet, I still have a bit of painting to do as well as the roof window openers to fit. There is even still some masking tape in places for touch ups. But I’m almost there - and it’s already useable. Plus I think I will continue to tinker on it, so it might always be in the state of “almost finished”  :D

For interested parties - Materials were about 1000£, about half of that on glass, the majority of the rest on wood, cement, sand and incidentals. The bricks were a very cheap reclaimed lot of eBay.

Can’t wait for the growing season to start.

What a great build!!  Good on you!!  Many happy hours to escape to in there - I love the smell !!
A good hoeing is worth two waterings.

  • Wow. What a great job. Love the colour. I don't think that will blow away in the winds!
  • Bet you can’t wait for the weather to break to get sowing, potting and all things gardening ! Don’t forget to install a seat for you to have a tea-break. My kind of greenhouse well done .

I have a little folding seat  ;) and I already pottered around a bit in it today between pruning the roses. It was at about 10 degrees in there which felt balmy after being in the garden for a couple of hours.  Agree about the smell, it’s that mixture of earth and plants and gardening, that’s so lovely.

It looks great. Lovely colour. Well done!
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
  • Well done with that, it does look good  :)

Thank you very much everyone. I was hoping it would look like it has been there for ages, hence the use of as much reclaimed materials as possible. Plus it allowed me not to go crazy if things didn’t work out perfectly. I probably get electricity in there at one point but the solar lights do a nice job for now.

If anyone has any “must have” greenhouse accessories, please share  :)
I have a max, min, humidity thermometer up but happy to invest in a few other bits if they make greenhouse life even more enjoyable.
