    I have one green one in the front, and a red leaved one in the back, planted when they were much smaller and I liked the leaves.  The one in the front is now a tree and too much hassle to take out.  I thought I had lost the red one in the back after the Beast From the East, but back it came, with multiple shoots.  I wouldn't mind if they died, but they like our mild(ish) climate here in Suffolk, and my sandy soil.
    If you like yours, you could try cutting it down to the ground and see what happens.
