    You miss the point..

We can all do what pleases ourselves.  What will benefit us is what we want to know.  If the reason for raised beds is disability access, how am I to know.
location: Surrey Hills, England, ex-woodland acidic sand.

  • The reason I want a raised bed is because I have always liked the look of them 😊 we are making the garden into something that we are able to look after without spending all our time in there to keep it looking nice, it’s going to be a more sociable garden with BBQ and pizza oven area. We don’t spend anytime in the garden at the moment and I want to change that.

So why make assumptions and then make pejorative remarks?
Just enquire nicely … or make no comment at all.

As Ma would say, if you can’t say something nice don’t say anything at all.

It'll be grand @Newbiegardner. If you need further advice, or ideas, add some photos too, as that always helps    :)
Many people use sleepers for raised beds as they can double as seating - so you might want to consider that, if you haven't already. Might be a bit jaggy for the ones with raspberries though  ;)
You'll need to top the beds up each year, but that needs doing in most beds/borders anyway. Use a good soil mix, not just compost as that isn't hefty enough for long term planting.
This 'garden' was mainly compacted, manky clay, gravel and slabs when I moved in. It would have been soul destroying to try and cultivate it. Just digging a hole for a fence post was bad enough, and I'm not exactly feeble. Fine on the bits that had been grass, but not the rest of it. I'm used to building raised beds, so it was easier. Done it many times. It also means many ornamental plants are at a better height, depending on the sizes of the beds.  :)

It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
  • This is kind of what I have in my head the blank areas are charcoal block paving (we are getting our driveway done at the same time and want it all to flow from the front to the back)
  • Oh and it’s not to scale 🫢🤣
