Cost effective ceramic/terracotta pots?

  Most of the garden centres will have a sale of glazed/terracotta pots at some time, usually coming up to spring planting time and again in the autumn to get rid of the old ones. I sometimes take a chance and buy a larger cracked pot at a keen reduced price and then glue the crack on the inside. Turned round towards the wall/fence/whatever it's not noticeable.
  
   I don't use the two sites you mention.

  I have the opposite problem @AnguisFragilis I have a number of terracotta pots/planters I no longer need..
  I've had some success in my small village by just putting them outside with a notice saying "Free to good home".
  May be worth trying your local Freecycle or Next Door Neighbour sites.

  I must admit I see a load of planters say in front gardens full of weeds not being used and am tempted to knock on the door!

  A load of pots tipped over and stacked in a corner with grass and moss the only things growing isn’t some attempting wildlife friendly gardening.

  Several of the garden centres near me (Nottingham) stock seconds from Yorkshire Pots at pretty reasonable prices. Occasionally there'll be one with a crack that they'll let you have for a couple of quid. I always buy cheap pots if I come across them on my travels, there'll always be a use for them down the line.
