ID small Sea fish …

    I can't find the better photos but these were some I uploaded to iNaturalist and concluded that they were sand smelt (Atherina presbyter) rather than the European Smelt (Osmerus eperlanus). This size of fish is usually eaten as 'whitebait'.





    If you can keep your head, while those around you are losing theirs, you may not have grasped the seriousness of the situation.

    Yes that looks right @wild edges … the head/mouth was noticeably different to the sardines/pilchards and the pattern along the dorsal area is the same as mine. 

    I don’t think it was an anchovy as they’re oily fish.

    They are known as Sparling up here. I've caught a few back when i used to go fishing.
