Seedling help

Help! My lovely snaps and ammi magus which were thriving in the autumn are not looking well! My snaps are drooping-soil isn’t dry so they’re not thirsty.
My ammi seems to be growing a weak point at the bottom and snapping off. Any advice?!?

  • They need sunlight and there isn't enough at this time of year. It's ok for some plants that go dormant but for something to actively grow you would need to supply warmth and grow lights.
Or wait until  March/ April and try again :)

I think Ammi have a deep root too, so they need to be in a deeper pot to allow for that. I sow them later so that they can be planted out before they get to that stage. That may be the problem with those, although I'm not 100% sure of that.
If those are sweet peas I can see, you can pinch those out - in fact you need to pinch them out so that they become bushy, rather than etiolated, which is usually down to low light too, especially when sown in autumn    :)
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
  • I realised I never followed up these answers - I’d been following Zoe Woodward’s sow along hence why I’d already sown all these seeds (I’ve found the last 2 years my sweet peas are so much better for being sown in October)- anyway it turned out to be dampening off and it wiped out all my seedlings. Probably my fault for not washing the trays and not giving the plants better ventilation in the damp weather.
