    Some pears aren't ready to pick until around November.
    I picked the first few Glou Morceau in late Oct and the rest by mid-Nov

    I then dug the tree up and chucked it :)
    I've got too many pear trees, so a Hereford Russet is ready to go in that spot.

    One pear tree is to many! (and I do like pears) we have a pear that came with the house, I would guess at it being a comice, but it may be something else, since no matter how early I pick them they only keep a week at most. It's alone, there is no other pear tree within 500m at least, and it produces a heavy crop every year, to the point that I have no idea what to do with 20-30kg of pears.
    Summers here average 16C winters down to -18C, wind is constant. The tree stands in the open on a north facing slope so it is not in a warm position at all.

    I used to preserve mine in brandy @Skandi and give them as Christmas presents, thrifty being that I am  :)
