What you need are some hearty evergreen shrubs, and perhaps some that are winter flowering.
That will counteract the rain, and give you more to look at. Vital here where I am.  :)

Yes definitely, I had the bright idea in Autumn to have a clear out, so this spring /summer will be in my element selecting new.... Can't wait
  • I love the austerity of the winter garden, the restricted colour palette and the fact that it's the only time it looks remotely tidy. Stuff grows so fast here in spring and summer that I can never keep up and there are always parts that are out of control! Have to admit, where I live helps though.

Indeed @Buttercupdays - no need for much in the way of plants where you are  :)
I get my fix out of winter looks on hills, when I'm able to get out, so I don't really care that much about the garden in winter.
It's fairly self sufficient, but some greenery is nice on a dreary day in a domestic, bog standard garden like mine,  and when you know it's still a long time until spring.

How much time you actually sit on that nice Lutyens bench though?  ;)

  • Don't actually have that bench now as pic is a few years old, though everything else still looks the same. But you are right, I am very bad at just sitting in the garden, always find something that needs doing. I spend more time on my knees than the most fervent nun though!

I'm not good at sitting in the garden either @Buttercupdays. Always something needing shifted or debated. If I have a cup of tea, or my lunch, that's about as much as I can do   :)
