Apples on a tree Christmas

Hi everyone.

I live in Cambridge and by the river side near the Fort St. George pub is an apple tree that still has beautiful red apples on it.  I saw a similar one a week or so ago by a roadside in Licolnshire.

Can anyone tell me which varieties of apple trees still have their fruit on them at this time of year?

It'll be a wild one probably from a core thrown by someone.
There are still some on the apple trees around where I walk my dog.
I've tried them - WOW acidic in the EXTREME

Every pip from every apple will produce a unique tree, so it won't have a name.
You could always name it :)

  • I will try and get one of the roadside ones.  The riverside ones are probably a bit high up but I'll try.  I think the tree is in someone's garden but overhanging a path.

Are there any cultivated eaters or cookers that keep their fruit into January?

A friend a few doors away has Spartan - they often stay on the tree to around December and he stores many of them.
Once the leaves have dropped the tree looks like it's covered in shiny red deep red baubles.
I get some every year - they're ok taste wise but nothing special.
