All the advice given so far has been to leave until Spring, as with most dormant plants.

  • Thank you all so much. I will definitely wait to see how it develops. I’m also sure that after the 7 weeks of warm and rainy Atlantic weather, we will get a different weather in the first week of February and it could be a high with frost and snow. Who knows, let’s see in Spring what survived.

    I my garden.

As @GardenerSuze has said, you can cut back Carex by up to 50%.  It's best to do this in March/April, but not in autumn or winter.
I watched my neighbours fell their glorious Miscanthus Sinensis yesterday in its winter prime. Part of me died.

May be they're expecting an early Spring @McRazz!  Miscanthus don't seem to object to an early pruning but to do this when it's still looking good is not typical of a respectful gardener!

@Mcrazz That is sad. Some gardener take time to avoid the new shoots when cutting back Miscanthus end of Feb early March. I just cut back the lot, it soon gets going again.
I have worked as a Gardener for 24 years. My latest garden is a new build garden on heavy clay.

I love skeletal grasses etc but there is a part of me that wants them all GONE at this time of year, so they don't distract from the bulbs and signs of new growth that are starting to appear.
