Ours don't normally flower until we are well into March or nearly April here. The ones I sowed last autumn aren't showing any signs of buds yet but they have always flowered later in the first year but gone on longer, sometimes into June. They aren't as impressive as the older ones which just get cut backed after flowering and go on for a couple of years before they are replaced (people treat them as annuals but they do better as short lived perennials for me).
I thought they were annuals when a friend gave me some about 8 years ago.  They now seem to be spreading to other beds too.  Always appreciate their cheerful input.
  • The ones I originally sowed about two years ago have been flowering for almost a month now, really cheering up a few spots (have not quite figured out the year round interest side of things yet). Great for this time of year!

The wallflowers that are usually grown as biennials will often last several years but they tend to get a bit woody and leggy.
Doncaster, South Yorkshire. Soil type: sandy, well-drained

Early to mid April before they flower here. They can last a couple of years, depending on location, climate etc.
I collected and sowed seed last year, but they're very small. It was late in the year before there was seed pods though [August at least] so not entirely unexpected.
Woody and leggy is exactly what they're like after a couple of years  @JennyJ  :)
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
