Removing mature bush roots

I'm about to plant a new hedge but trying, with difficulty, to remove the old one as they are rooted under next doors foundations. Any advice welcome.

    You need a mattock, which is a kind of axe on one end and a pick at the other, invaluable for digging and chopping out roots I've found. You can get mini ones for hand work and bigger ones if you're fit and strong.

    Hi lIzzie, yep got the big one (best tool ever) It's hard to photograph but the stems and roots go way back and under . I may see if I can get a small one. Thanks

    I got my mini mattock from Screwfix, one of the best tools I've ever had.
