Removing mature bush roots

I'm about to plant a new hedge but trying, with difficulty, to remove the old one as they are rooted under next doors foundations. Any advice welcome.

You need a mattock, which is a kind of axe on one end and a pick at the other, invaluable for digging and chopping out roots I've found. You can get mini ones for hand work and bigger ones if you're fit and strong.

  • Hi lIzzie, yep got the big one (best tool ever) It's hard to photograph but the stems and roots go way back and under . I may see if I can get a small one. Thanks

I got my mini mattock from Screwfix, one of the best tools I've ever had.
