It is reassuring when sound gardening principles can solve a problem with an unknown grass in an unknown place.
location: Surrey Hills, England, ex-woodland acidic sand.

  • Thought I’ll post a quick photo update incase anyway else runs into a similar situation in the future. Seeing a lot more green now. Should continue with my watering technique or slow down a little?

It’s summer for you … I’d keep up with the watering.

I agree - keep it up unless you get consistent rainfall  :)
Looking much better already - once it's well rooted, it'll manage the longer, drier spells more easily, but it'll still be affected by those.
    Good luck with it  :)
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...

Key takeaway is to dampen down the prep area thoroughly prior to laying. Following this approach you should only need a small amount of watering, mostly to the outer edges of the lawn.

Dry turf can behave a lot like a waterproof membrane and can at times seem almost impossible to rehydrate from above, hence the patchy regrowth.
