I'd agree there's a lonicera nitida or pileata in that first pic. It could well be that one @AnniD. I personally just hack back if needed, regardless of type. I don't take prisoners
If the 'hedge' is a mix of those - ie cotoneaster and lonicera, you won't have a problem getting stuck in

Forgive my ignorance on this. We have a large cotoneaster that is expanding across our drive over the years that probably measures at least 6 feet deep to the wall it sits against. If I trim it right back by at least 3 feet will it survive? I realise that I will be removing all the foliage back into just all small branches but will that regenerate?
They stay nicer for longer if you trim them regularly, cutting back hard a large one may take a while before it doesn’t look like bare wood.
That said I hacking mine back severely next weekend. They should recover well.
