Thanks thats all really helpful. I hadn't fully appreciated the significance of personal preference for colour or even space for planting. Typical me I was just thinking how nice it would be to get a rose as a gift, but then my garden is pretty eclectic. Having done some googling I found https://www.englishroses.co.uk/ who sell an E gift card. So hopefully my friends can choose whatever suits their garden and everyone will be happy. This is my first post on here so many thanks for the properly helpful advice.
You are doing the right thing Dan. A lot of gardeners are really picky about which plants they will have in their gardens. I know I am! As far as roses are concerned, I know my soil is not right for them, I have no suitable fences or pergolas etc to grow a climber up, and I will not give house room to any rose which does not have a very strong scent, I hate standard roses, lollipops on sticks. I also hate the shrieking neon colours, especially fluorescent pinks. Yuck! I am not prepared to give up space for the large growing moss roses although I love them and I think the didi little patio roses are a waste of space. Having said all that, I do love roses and have a small area that I am going to make into a rose bed, I have already bought the 4 roses to be planted in it but doubt if anyone else would have chosen the same varieties. That is what makes gardening so interesting. The recipients of your vouchers will have a happy time deciding what they are going to spend your gift on, and whatever they choose will remind them of you. I would probably use a voucher for potting compost, or maybe not if I was tempted by an especially interesting plant.
