Wisdom is not putting it in a fruit salad.
  • Please may I ask an (unrelated) dahlia question? Do they 'need' the dormancy period to flower the following year? I have a few tubers that I lifted and wrapped earlier, but one plant remains in a 12inch-ish pot which I just brought indoors. This still has leaves. Can I just cut back on the watering and leave it growing slowly indoors (and then basically prune any leggy growth in spring) vs expending energy lifting this one too? I'm not 100% sure of the variety but it looked like a shorter-than-normal bishop of canterbury (2 ft ish tall) when it was in bloom, so I guess could be one of the children.

I'm tempted to do the experiment unless anyone thinks it is a terrible idea.

No harm in experimenting. You could also take cuttings when new growth comes through - as back up.  :)
I think the B's children are usually grown from seed, but it comes down to conditions for over wintering them, so I don't see why it wouldn't work if they're well protected.
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
  • Thank you Fairygirl
