Fence quote - is this reasonable?

Hi there

I've had a quote to build a fence from scratch.  It would be 6 foot high and approximately 23 metres wide.  For all materials and labour they're asking £2700.  Does this seem reasonable?  I am requesting the planks to be fitted horizontally with minimal gaps for a contemporary look.

I don't think that's too bad. I have a similar boundary, and did all the fence myself [9 years ago] and the materials alone were probably several hundred pounds - I can't remember exactly. Mine is mostly double sided, 6 feet high, good quality timber, but the front boundary is lower and single sided.
I expect to do it now would cost nearer £1000 for materials from a builder's merchant, so that sounds pretty decent.  :)
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

  • I would say that is pretty good with current prices. I built a similar length last winter with hefty posts, rails and featheredge boards and the timber price alone was about £1k.

I agree that's a reasonable price. I've just paid the best part of £1000 to have subtantial bracing repairs to a similar length of fencing. I know the landscaper and trust his prices to be reasonable for a good job. He said timber prices are very high.

Always get at least two quotes.
