  • I don't think they will mind your westerly aspect @Fairygirl as long as you don't tread on them. They grow everywhere with me including full sun where they flower well. 
    I have worked as a Gardener for 24 years. My latest garden is a new build garden on heavy clay.
  • I would agree with GardenerSuze. My plant in the hedge faces North, dank, dark and damp, overgrown with grass and bushes, yet there it was, 2 tiny pink flowers on long straggly stems.

    Oh yes - no problem in shade, as that's they're preferred site and where most of mine are.  I do have others which have seeded into sunny spots, but whether the ones against the raised bed will survive my feet, is another matter  ;)
    It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....



    I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
