Worms for compost

Is it necessary to get a certain type of worm for making compost or will garden worms do? I've heard that 'Tiger Worms' are used to help compost kitchen waste so was wondering if it was the same for a garden compost bin/heap.

    Brandlings are the ones you find in compost heaps. They usually find their own way in. Earthworms are not bothered by compost heaps.

    I agree. If you build it, they will come.

    I have had a worm composter in one guise or another for fifteen years at least and over that time I have accidentally killed off most of the dendroabena worms on a couple of occasions, the last time after the compost went anaerobic I cleaned out the bin counting ten living worms plus eggs, the following year the worm population had increased to one hundred and twelve months after that the population must have been around one thousand. To answer your question the correct composting worms will find their way into an open compost heap.
