Cyclamen with freckles

Three years ago I decided to propagate a lot of Cyclamen from seed so did a lot of hand pollinating across Coum and Hederifoleum and the common garden centre ones to see what I would get.  300+ later and potted on they bloomed well and one or two white ones showed a little freckling.  This year one planted in the ground is so pretty with pronounced freckles, love it but having asked around concensus is that it is not a virus but may be down to compost, nutrients or other growing conditions.  Anyone else had this and have you propagated to try and have it replicate in new babies.

Very pretty, not seen anything like that on any of mine.

  • I've also grown from collected seed over a number of years but haven't produced anything with such obvious markings.  Very pretty @artykst :)

I'd say that one is largely, maybe entirely, Cyclamen persica. (the garden centre one)

More than likely as I used a paint brush on lots of different Cyclamen to see what cross breeding would happen.  However, the freckles have only appeared on this one planted out in the ground with lots of different coloured ones and all in the same soil.  Now pollinating the flowers with each other to see if I can replicate it from seed. If a Bee or other pollinator got there before me then I may be out of luck but love this difference so giving it a go.

If you have C.hederefolium and C.coum close together, the coum will die out, they are much weaker plants.
