Are there any bulbs that mice don't go for?

By their very name, Anemone blanda may not be tasty to mice @B3!  The bulbs are small, black and not fleshy (they look like you might have a pet sheep!) so not an obviously tempting food possibility.  There are blue, purple and white varieties, so not too garish!  I'm with you though @Fairygirl, bright brash tulips to celebrate the end of dark gloomy winter days!

They  or the squirrels got them all bar one the last time I tried them. Two packetsful! I love the blue ones. @Plantminded

Bang goes my theory about them not being tasty then @B3!

I just looked up 'blanda', just a quick Google.
    Various words came up.
    'Charming, pleasing, caressing(?), enchanting, mild'
    Didn't see 'tasty'! 🙂

It was a bit of a pun @Woodgreen, not really that good - blanda, bland, not tasty!

Yes, I got the pun @Plantminded!
But you know how some Latin names you pick up the meaning of as you go along? I'd never thought about what 'blanda' might mean, so I had a peek. I was amused really by the various meanings, none of which explain the attraction to mice.
    Great little flowers though!
  • If you want an early spring display then alliums wouldn't fit the bill, @B3 - but I'm planning to pot up some of my garlic chives in the spring, and grow them in a pot by the back door where I can a) pick the odd leaf without getting wet feet, and b) enjoy the really lovely scent of the white flowers in late summer.  Not a hint of garlic in the flower scent, just vanilla-y loveliness.   :)

I like the sound of the garlic chives so long as they stay out of the garden. I believe they're a bit of a spreader @Liriodendron

  • They will self-seed here if I let them - not nearly as bad as ordinary chives though @B3.

I wish the ordinary chives would seed here. I grow them mainly for the flowers.
