Monkey puzzle turned brown

Our 13year old monkey puzzle was transferred from pot to ground last year . It has started to brown but new branches are growing. Not sure if it needs water or feeding. Based in Dordogne. Any ideas on what we can do would be very welcome

it seems from the photo that it is having to cope with being closely surrounded by grass. Trees like a nice clear area around their base, so they can extract nutrients.

@jmlkirk isn't there a natural process whereby the trees lose their lower branches as they grow? I've never seen a full grown one with branches bottom to top and there are a lot of them in this area. Some of them are succumbing to Phytophthora ramorum but I doubt that's the case with yours.

  • It’s planted in the lawn . We will remove the grass and put some more soil down . Hopefully that will help.
