I think you may have exposed the true reason we never had a cat

To be fair @WonkyWomble, they were my cats  ;)

Much as I'm slightly horrified at the 'bathroom' scenario
Yes, I wish she also would use the toilet or her toilet for that. But to be fair, she has got her own towel and tells me at 4 in the morning that she wants to go into the garden but I don’t allow it. I take the towel and tell her to use her towel.

    We all have our weaknesses.

    I know @Simone_in_Wiltshire  :)
Could you try putting the towel in a tray, and gradually getting her accustomed that way?
    Bit of a headache though!

  • I’m afraid our bath is too small for second loo and it’s the scratching that makes it similar to her soil cat toilet in the garden.

Ah - do you not have an indoor litter tray at all?
Ours did, and always used it. They never went outside in the garden - they came back in to use it.

Back to a (in my opinion) helpful attempt at an answer:

Why not dig a hole and bury it.

We do have an indoor litter tray in the bathroom but the bathroom is not big enough to fit a second one. She only uses the indoor loo if hit rains cats and dogs and over night.

Also, our cat is 14 years old and on her last legs. We almost thought that we have to put her to sleep last Wednesday and we were relieved when the vet said after the big check in the evening that she is more optimistic. Our little girl had lost 500g which is enormous as she has only now 2.9kg (September kitten, always half size, but she is fighter 😊).
Nevertheless I do not intend to change grannies and granny cats habits but will be glad that they stay with us and accept that they are only 99.9% perfect.

Thanks for your suggestions. I will put it into the litter bin over winter, and will add some of it to the compost next year after the planting season is over and I will start to get new compost.

  • We used wood-based cat litter for our indoor cat and added the wet stuff to the compost heap, but never the poo.  I think you'd be fine doing the same with your paper-based litter, @Simone_in_Wiltshire, as your cat doesn't poo in it.  I reckon visiting cats who poo in my veg beds are much more of a danger to my health... hence I always wear gloves when gardening.
Since 2019 I've lived in east Clare, in the west of Ireland.
