The Japanese flowering quince are still edible. If you grate the flesh into apples and stew it, it is delicious.

I had my phone with me yesterday when I went by the bush. There is still 'fruit' on this low growing bush but it does not appear to be attracting much attention from pickers.

I suspect most people these days have no idea what to do with quinces. You can't really eat them raw, and you never see them in the shops.

I wonder if the quince are attractive to any form of wildlife.

No idea. If not, the fruit will eventually drop off and rot down, consumed by micro-organisms.

As the winter weather arrives they'll begin to rot down ... blackbirds will feast on them. They love them.
