Hi @WAMS, a couple of buds are showing colour — not long now I hope!

What a luscious colour, @Athelas. Mine aren't yet showing colour but I am vicariously excited for you!

Looks absolutely delicious!! Can’t wait to see them when they’re fully out!

My phone camera does not adequately capture how dark the petals are or how pearl-like the white stamens appear.
    I'm in love.

Same here — it looks washed out in my photos. The dark freckles in each flower are lovely.

And I especially love the chocolate-y buds

  • I recently brought a Polar Nights and have planted it in a pot. I am not in any way a "gardener".
Love the plant, any ideas why the flowers have started to fade in colour?

    Thank you in advance 🙂

Rhododendron flowers do not last  for a long time.
As they start to die back and turn brown the colour can change.
I recommend after the flowers turn brown you dead head it.

Flowers  last for longer in cool, semi shaded woodland type conditions.
In a pot you will need to ensure you keep it well watered all year.
Even when it rains,  as the rain may not reach the soil cos of the large evergreen leaves.

    Welcome to the forum!

Possibly also from being exposed to direct sunlight?

When the pot feels light, maybe every couple of weeks, I dunk it in a bucket of water and leave it there a few minutes to absorb as much water as it wants

Mine is in a dark north-facing corner

  • I have a south facing garden and it was placed in a location that gets full sun nearly all day, i have now moved it to a slightly more shaded area following the comment by @Silver surfer
