Many years ago we had a "council" person at the house. Why weren't we recycling more? We don't have newspapers so don't have them, we rarely have tinned food so no cans, bottles yes so added.....we compost our waste veg (no meat products). Cardboard is also added to the compost bin. Food waste is extreme in that "best" before is often taken that you can't eat it after that date. You can freeze it and use it later and not waste it. You can make soups etc from very reduced veg in the supermarkets and freeze some for later. I have bought a kilo of carrots for 19p and had them for some meals as well as freezing.
We waste very little food. Most of our "food waste" is cat food that the grumpy old man-cat turns up his nose at. It's strange, he'll eat something one week and then next time he won't touch it but will eat something that he's previously ignored. It's an ongoing guessing game.
@JennyJ, or my cat doesn't touch the fresh stuff the entire day, and when I give up and take the bowl into the kitchen, then she eats the (few) dried out rest overs on the floor.
