I'm certainly going with the insert idea. I won't get a monstera. They get to be monstrous big if they're even mildly content. @Ergates. I'm now almost certain the previous occupant got into serious difficulties because I was stupid enough to sit it in a tightly fitting saucer and blocked the drainage hole . What an eejit!
I'd start off a nice rubber plant in it. Maybe a Ficus Altissima - Yellow gem or maybe a Ruby verioty. Something nice but it's all about personal preference and what you find pleasing to the eye. An aloe vera would be suited due to the pots weight. A snake plant would look good. I'm sure if you visit a garden centere you'll come back with ten plants then have to decide 😂
This is an Abidjan verioty of the rubber plant he would make a great home in that pot. This is just a baby he will look stunning in a few years. These like plenty of drainage so 15% grit 5% sand 5% clay pebbles and some good quality compost like John inns no 3 and feed in spring and summer with half strength tomato fertiliser once a month and if he's greedy every few weeks. Water only when dry two inches down and give a good soak but never leave any water in the saucer. Leave in full sun through winter in sunny window. When spring comes leave in the window until you see slight discoloration in the leaf then move back a foot. Don't leave him in the window when the heating is on if your radiator is under it. Mist twice a week in winter once in summer. I like to alternate my feed once with tomato and then with miricle grow
Yes the colour looks different in different lighting, sometimes he looks dark green sometimes begie and sometimes dark brown near black. Can be grown as a single stem or you can put a few in for a fuller look. Or you can notch it to get more side growth. Some pinch it but it doesn't work as well as notching it for side growth. You can keep it small or let it just go for it. You can keep it a few foot tall or let it hit the roof. Oh and you can stunt his growth through lower lighting and feeding or turn him into a monsterous gready pig
