Leaf miner doesn't cause the same damage as vine weevil grubs. Normal advice would be remove the affected leaves as said.  You do have the added problem of a plant that is not completely hardy which is why I hesitated at the beginning of thread about removing leaves. I would not spray with anything at all there is so much new information out there regarding the damage that is being caused by pesticides, fungicides etc. Not only insects, birds etc but the affects on humans are becoming more understood. I have had the same problem with two plants, I discovered an invasion of very small almost invisible caterpillars were the culprit, I sprayed under the leaves with insecticide which cured the problem immediately.
Unfortunately one has done the usual thing they do each year, lose all its leaves and die!

I am sure Angels Wings would love a free drained sunny site all year round. It is changes in temperatures rain etc that make it vunerable and  therefore open to attack by a variety of things. Caterpillars however small can be removed.

  • Thanks to everybody for their advice and help. I suggest Braidman, that you do what I did last year and take some cuttings before the winter. They rooted really easily indoors in water and then survived last winter without any problems and no pests.
