My Gheslaine is grown on a fence .It’s huge and would be far too big and heavy to go on an arch .But I suppose if you kept it cut and thinned ,it might be ok ,but boy o boy can they get big .
PS - ordinary shrub roses can be used as climbers. I used to have a shrub rose (name escapes me atm) that I trained onto a fence and it covered more than 1 6ft panel. I have rose Moonlight in the garden. It's wound its way into a rowan and is about 12ft up the tree. It's also made its way along the fence by about 15ft. It's the first rose to flowers in May with a huge flush. It then flowers much less until well into December. https://www.davidaustinroses.co.uk/products/moonlight

It's exciting to hear that a single Ghislaine de Feligonde and Moonlight rose can get so big. How long have you had yours in @Pete.8 - is it just one plant?
I do hear that ramblers are not recommended for arches as they are just too hard to train and chaotic in growth habit.
Yes, it's just 1 plant @Fire It's been in probably about 20 years
The base of the plant is now smothered by the euonymus hedge and weigela, so I can't even reach it. It's worked its way up through the weigela and is now about 1/2 way up the rowan. My neighbour has an even better display on her side!
This pic is from last year - it's higher up the rowan now.

@Hilary_15 I have both of these, not growing on arches but against rigid mesh fences. Niether is yet at full growth but I have seen mature Ghislaines going a long way so, ofr na arch, I'd advise Lady of the Lake. She's easily bendable and repeat flowers and won't be as rampant but will flower well if encouraged by good planting and annual feeding and mulching.
