@Joyce Goldenlily  I always enjoy reading your posts. There is always a new project large or small you can plan over the winter months and put in to practice the following spring. I have supported children with gardening and learnt whilst working for some very talented older gardeners who taught me so much.  I am also a member of a gardening club which I helped set up nearly 30 years ago. So many members would agree that meeting and chatting about gardens is good for the spirits.

@Jacqueline29 Sorry if I have jumped in on your discussion it has been great to read your positive comments.
I have worked as a Gardener for 24 years. My latest garden is a new build garden on heavy clay.
  • I totally agree, you are never too old to learn a new skill. I am 62, now retired and decided I wanted to start growing my own plants from seeds and cuttings which I did for the first time this year. I was astonished when my seedlings actually grew into annuals which I was able to plant out, they gave us a lovely display through the summer and my cosmos is still going! To top that my husband made me some planters, I didn’t have a clue what to do or what to grow but I started reading these forums and watching Gardeners World. This year I have harvested runner beans, toms, radish, spring onions, lettuce, carrots, turnips and gooseberries all without a greenhouse, though I have a small coldframe. My husband is currently in hospital so my garden has become my save place and haven and helps me to de stress when I am feeling anxious and worried.
