Try using the resize function in your photo library and reduce the height of your photo to 1000 units. That solved the problem for me, after much trial and error. Good luck!
Thanks Ben. Is there a post on here explaining how to do this correctly? It's already taken me much longer than I wanted to spend uploading images...
People have been complaining about the irritating sideways uploading quirk for years but the site administrators will not or cannot rectify it. Once you know, and remember!, to crop before you upload the problem evaporates. Also, if the image has too high a definition using many million pixels it won’t upload at all. When I upload photos taken with my iPad there is never a problem but photos taken on the camera sometimes have to be reduced in terms of pixels. To get help with that ask a passing 7 year old; they know about such matters.
Looks like you need a hedge trimmer or 2, careful with the conifer don't go into brown material. I'd be removing the carex pendula next to the gate. I use weedkiller for paths.
@glraggett I have worked as a gardener for over twenty years and the first thing I noticed is the view from the gate to the front door. This is the first thing that people notice as they approach your home and you want it to look welcoming. With all respect to you or the previous owners nothing had been done for sometime and some of the weeds will have set seed multiple times.
I will assume you are not 'up' on plant names so will try to keep it simple hope that is OK. What is obvious is alot of the plants have seeded from the hedge outside.
As mentioned the plant with reed like leaves to the left of the gate is Carex morrowii. I would just dig this out it is a thug! There is something else growing with it not sure what it is about to loose it's leaves, so I would leave it for now when it flowers someone on the forum will know if it is worth keeping. Is it also growing in the hedgerow?
On the right hand side is Ivy which has lots of berries this year so you can cut off what you want away from the path and gate the birds won't miss out there are plenty this year for them. I am unable to say what the conifer might be my question would be are you desperate to keep it,if you cut into brown it will not recover. It isn't very easy to see what is growing along the path the plant with orange berries is an evergreen Iris foetidissima often dispersed by birds. A plant for shade. You also have a rose to the right which I would keep to see what it does. The other plant on the right is a Cotoneaster with tiny red berries, possibly C orientalis worth keeping just trim back from path. Other than that I would clear everything, yes there is a risk you might dig up a plant but you need to just do it!
If you have enjoyed all this hard work and want to do more in the future I would start with a blank canvas a very simple approach would look best in that small space. Repeating the same plant each side of the path would work well. Plant choices alway depend on type of soil, aspect and whether you live in the North or South of the country I hope you can look at the parts of this that are useful to you.
I have worked as a Gardener for 24 years. My latest garden is a new build garden on heavy clay.
