  • Probably not the best post but one of the best articles I've read this week
  • Sadly I can’t read the Telegraph … it’s one of those ‘luxuries’ that some of us do without in order to afford the more essential things of life.  :/

Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.

It won’t let me read it for free either.
How can you lie there and think of England
When you don't even know who's in the team

  • Nor me.  Seems you are allowed to read a fixed number of articles, but then the paywall kicks-in.
A trowel in the hand is worth a thousand lost under a bush.
  • I just read it free (no subscriber) but it’s one of those articles where the writer tries to connect events that each of them stands for a different aspect. Very long read, and at the end, I had forgotten what the context to the title was.
He repeats things that have been already admitted as wrong decisions like reliance on Putin’s gas. Why he uses Germany’s backup plan in case gas supply stops, is not clear because each country affected by cold winters should do and has always done this in the past. Others, like extreme ecological acting will cause more deaths as result of starvation due to suppressed farming etc., will cause more damage than using fossil fuels.  Most readers disagreed and couldn’t make sense of it.

  • Looking at the subject of this discussion, even I'm not a big friend of the Telegraph, I do enjoy reading the comments by the readers now and then which are in many cases very knowledgeable and inspire to check things like in this case: https://www.telegraph.co.uk/business/2022/11/03/jeremy-hunt-set-launch-capital-gains-tax-raid/
One reader cited a figure that was recently mentioned:

A look into Wikipedia tells that the UK is heading for 83% of Germany's GDP, which is remarkable considering that the UK has got with 67 million population just 80% of the people compare to 83 million population of Germany. This means per resident, the UK has got still a higher capita than Germany.
This post by Mr Hutchinson was the best post imo.
