I have four hosta plants that l need to take out of existing pots and overwinter. Is it possible for me to split them in the next week or so and then pot up, or would it be better to wait until the Spring?
Yes - they're all completely hardy as far as I'm aware. They don't need overwintering- in the usual meaning of that term. Splitting is normally done in spring, but I think you could do it now if you wanted. It's certainly easier when there's no foliage in the way though, so it'll depend what they're like
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....
I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
Thank you all for your replies My plan is to divide them and then put them in pots and place them up against a wall over Winter.
They are actually in big pots belonging to my MIL, she wants narcissus bulbs planted but there's no way l can get them in, so l thought l'd take the opportunity to split the hostas and keep some pieces for a plant sale next May. The rest wil go back in the original pots when the bulbs are over.

I leave mine in their pots over winter and split and repot in the spring, just as they begin to poke their 'noses' through the surface of the soil.
Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
