Cost effectiveness is always something to consider when growing your own and I also have problems with growing Brassicas. Given the constant warnings recently about how many farmers are either cutting back on growing food or going into retirement and selling their land for development, one does wonder where, eventually, we will get our "Greens" from ?
I agree @Liriodendron. It's all very well talking about how veg tastes better when home grown, but you have to think about the practicalities - mainly time and money. It certainly isn't worth trying them unless you're prepared to do all the net protection etc. That's an absolute must, no matter where you live.
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....
