EUONYMUS JAPONICUS AUREUS
in Plants
Need a favour fellow gardeners. Has anyone got this plant/shrub/tree
I took a cutting of it years ago and it was the size of a tree… but most of those on the web are no where near the height of a tree . It has distinctive variegation where it’s green edges and yellow/cream center. Like the Blonde. But this one I took the cutting from was as I say a tree. Blonde max height said is 60cm. I cannot find out any info on the web. Or it’s it not in English. Please help. I no I could trim to the size I want as now 40cm. But if it could be a tree I’d let it. But need to move it to a place for a tree. Thanks

It is a large shrub not a tree with a trunk. Please come back if I haven't answered your question. Welcome!
I actually don't like it much as I don't like the variegation, especially the bright yellow new growth which suddenly appears out of the green background - yuck! but it's an inherited hedge and it's evergreen and doesn't need lots of maintenance.
It's easy to keep pruned to the size you want though, so it's entirely up to you. It will need space around it to grow sideways as well. Hope this helps.
Last pic is of a young one, abt 1 m high and in more sunshine.
Very different plants one has..
Gold edges and green centre.
Other has green edges and gold centre.

Aureus.
Centre of leaf bright yellow with only a marginal line of dark green. Like many shrubs with this type of variegation, it is very apt to revert to the green type.

'Ovatus Aureus'
Perhaps the best of the golden variegated forms; Leaves oval or ovate, with a broad, irregular margin of rich yellow, which suffuses into the green centre. There are numerous other forms slightly different from the above. E. japonicus and all its varieties need a soil of moderate richness only; they are all easily rooted from cuttings.

The variegation on both seems to change throughout the year, very difficult to pin down.
Both have these bright all yellow new shoots sometimes. I sometimes try to prune all the yellow shoots out in the hope the plants revert to plain green but despite my efforts, I'm not winning!
I too am confused.
I have been trying to get to grips with the 2 common evergreen Euonymus.
Namely Euonymus fortunei and Euonymus japonicus...and all the many named cultivars.
Sadly I am not succeeding.
I can only look at sites that should have accurate info and try and learn.
Maybe others can help.

I wonder who I can trust....
Even the RHS site is confusing...see wording below.
The Pics show just the opposite.
