Potential forest

Hi all,

I've got hundreds (possibly thousands) of beech tree seeds scattered all over the back garden. How many do we think are likely to germinate?

Ditto. Some years there are lots of seedlings, just need weeding out whilst small.
I have worked as a Gardener for 24 years. My latest garden is a new build garden on heavy clay.

I've been trying to collect as many as possible from the new back lawn. Don't fancy them proliferating there :(

  • Grow them then bring them here to me, I'll plant them. You can't be far from me and then you can say you did your bit for the environment.
  • If they are anything like my Ash seeds @Biglad, most of them  ;)  I could always do you a swap - Ash and Birch for some Beech  :D

Seems to be a particularly good year for beech seeds.
    Blinking nuisance...from a neighbours tree.

The jays have been busy round here so I expect a new oak forest next year. We can usually rely on the woodpigeons hoovering up lots of the beech mast with flocks up to 50 strong at times but I still have to pull hundreds every year.

Neighbour keeps threatening to give the offending tree a good trim but hasn't. The prevailing wind dumps all debris onto us :(
