Dug up this plant as it hasn’t done anything for a year. I suspected and still do that it’s an iris. Siberica maybe? None of the rhizome was above the soil so I think this may be the issue why it did nothing?
@Alfie_ I think a purple blue iris is most likely too.
Thanks. I dug another one up that was very sheltered under the hedge and it’s huge. Is this also an iris? Does it need splitting as there are only shoots coming out the left half?
The Sibirica Irises are very different from the bearded Irises, they grow in damper locations and don’t grow with the rhizomes sitting on the soil surface.
How can you lie there and think of England When you don't even know who's in the team
@Alfie_ I assume the right half was actually under the hedge? They can become bare in the middle and that is the part you would discard as it is the oldest part of the plant. Personally unless you would like to plant all of it I would take a chunk from the healthiest part ,warning this is going to be hard work! Back to back forks might be best, think you have three decent size pieces there.
I have worked as a Gardener for 24 years. My latest garden is a new build garden on heavy clay.

The whole plant was under the hedge so I will cut it up as you suggested. Thanks for the help.
