Help identify a plant

I was given this by a friend who divided a large plant in her garden. She didn't know what it was herself. Plant ID apps say strawberry from the picture of the leaves but the flowers on the original bush were dark red rossettes and in flower now in October.  The plant did not produce runners like a strawberry but spreads easily in the garden. Does anyone know what it is?

One of the Potentillas. This year lots of plants are flowering or re-flowering now so may not be its normal flowering season

Mine are in flower now with dark red flowers.  They slowed down in the drought then started up again.
