Is my Yew okay ?

Hi everyone,

I would love some advice on the state of my Irish Yew, looks like it’s browning slightly

Could it be pot bound? I assume it is the golden form?

  • It’s in a pot, I thought they were okay in pots ?!?
It’s a taxis baccata apparently, it just seems to be losing its green

    thank you
  • Most plants restricted to pots - especially trees - do need more care/feeding/watering than those in open ground.
As @GardenerSuze suggests, your tree could be struggling a bit - particularly after the very dry/hot weather we have experienced lately.

Hi @tomcr1981 Has it been in the pot very long? If it is pot bound that could be the cause of it's stress and hence brown leaves. It would also struggle to take up water.

It could be leaf-scorch from exposure to too much sun.  Or too sudden a move to a sunny spot.  In which case the new growth should soon be back to green. (nb. new yew growth is usually a paler green).

It could also be a mineral deficiency, but just watch for now.

What sort of compost mix is it in and how long has it been since it was repotted?
