skimmia rubella

The flower buds are going grey and dropping without opening.  Is this a pest or a disease?

@jeanPkNvgfeo If you are able to load a photo that might help. I wonder if it is a disease although I haven't come across it before. Is it growing in the ground or a pot. They do like a soil that is slightly more acid or leaves yellow. If it is in a pot is there adequate drainage so that the water is running through? Damp conditions maybe the cause. Welcome!

  • Thank you for your reply.  It is planted in a pot.  The flowers turn white then disintegrate.

    Buds look healthy enough.
Maybe it is too dry at the roots.
This is a male only plant...therefore no berries.

Normally the red flower buds remain closed all winter, not opening until the spring.
Be patient it may be fine.

    1. Pic taken end of October...showing the male red flower buds.

2.Pic taken the following March with  male flowers open.

I agree it does look healthy at the moment. Skimmias don't seem to suffer from alot of pests or disease. The biggest problem is yellowing leaves, hope @Silver surfer s photos are helpful.
