My children call them “spitting out tongue flowers” and delight in seeing them in peoples front gardens. Most of mine flowered well then grew distorted before the fruit came. Only the new growth seems to be affected and the annual ones were worse.
@GardenerSuze , the way to remember the spelling is that it's named after a German chap named Leonhard Fuchs. Fortunately the English pronunciation makes the ch a little softer.
