Well I did too @punkdoc - but I restrained from saying anything while I gave him the benefit of the doubt. Not much doubt in my mind now though😕

@februarysgirl We wouldn't have trees without weird fungi so we wouldn't have Epimediums either. I know what it is like when you grow something special for friends and just before you proudly gift it to them it is covered in aphids or you find a vine weevil. I would think what ever it is will break down in the soil and actually do some good.
I have worked as a Gardener for 24 years. My latest garden is a new build garden on heavy clay.

Well this thread took an unexpected turn.

@bédé You've been very misinformed about what makes girls happy. Personally I've only cleaned up after creatures with four legs and a tail and since I'm not enamoured with that, cleaning up after a baby wouldn't fill me with joys of spring either. Irrespective of whether it's a baby, an animal or even an adult who's unable to do it for themselves, you do it because it needs to be done.

@Pete.8 It has spread quite a bit but then my beds are covered with bark chippings so it makes sense.

@Dovefromabove If the cabinet were replaced with fungus, would anyone even notice the difference? The person I'm giving the epimediums to is someone from work and I don't know her well enough to know whether or not she'd appreciate some fungus! I've seen photos of her garden and it's quite pristine so I think washing it off would be the best option.

@Topbird Whether or not it could cause any damage to other plants was definitely a concern. I didn't want to give away my epimediums and end up devastating someone else's garden.

@GardenerSuze I picked some flowers the other day to give to my OH's mum as she's had Covid and I saw (too late) they had some blackfly on them. Don't know whether or not she noticed but seeing as the flowers will be indoors, the blackfly won't be lasting too long to cause any problems. I'll be washing the epimediums before giving them to the recipient, I don't want to freak her out!

As a girl, you are probably happy to clean up after babies.  Me. I'm a boy; I would flood it with high pressure water.
I’ve certainly cleaned up after babies, but it hasn’t made me any happier than the task made OH when it was his turn on nappy changing duty. Does this mean you would also ban me from using the high pressure hose, as I wouldn’t enjoy it?

I like Dovefromabove's idea, developing replacements. Quite urgent ...still ...after 18 years.
