Something's been eating my berberis

A couple of days ago I noticed that most of the leaves on my berberis have been eaten
I found lots of little caterpillars on the remaining leaves.....
The shrub is a few years old and this is the first time it's happened. Is it likely to happen again next year?

Yes. Although this year I had very little sawfly damage compared to normal, I think the searingly hot summer I had killed them off!

However, the more small birds you encourage into your garden the greater the likelihood that they’ll harvest the larvae to feed their nestlings. 👍
