Identify this shrub.

  It looks looks a little like a Callistemon (bottle brush), but I could well be wrong.

  Yes I think it is too. Native to Australia.

  I have worked as a Gardener for 24 years. My latest garden is a new build garden on heavy clay.

  Sorry but it is not Callistemon 
  Notice the distinctive seed pods.
  It is Dodonaea viscosa purpurea.

  Thanks for all your suggestions but we think Silver Surfer has got it absolutely right. The seed pods look identical.

  I’m pleased the correct ID has been found. 
  I wasn’t 100% sure with my suggestion, just thought the leaves looked like bottlebrush.
